The 1950–51 season was the 71st season of competitive football in England. ==Overview== Tottenham Hotspur won their first League Championship, while Newcastle United defeated Blackpool 2–0 to win their fourth F.A. Cup. They would win it twice more over the next four seasons. The league was expanded from 88 to 92 clubs. Scunthorpe United and Shrewsbury Town from the Midland League were elected to the Third Division (North). 19 August 1950 - Priestfield Stadium: Colchester United's first-ever League game was played against old Southern League foes Gillingham.
